Germanna Foundation Genealogists Cathi Clore Frost and Barbara Price have been invited to present at the National Genealogical Society 2021 Family History Conference. This is the major annual event of the prestigious NGS, founded in 1903 as America’s first genealogical organization and today one of its largest.
Their presentation, Identifying the 1714 and 1717 Germanna Colonists of Frontier Virginia, will discuss the two groups of German indentured servants settled by Lt. Governor Alexander Spotswood at or near Fort Germanna. The focus will be on records held at various archives in Virginia, England, and Germany used to identify the membership of both the 1714 (First) and 1717 (Second) Germanna Colonies.
This conference, held in a different American city each year, normally lasts four days and attracts approximately 2,000 registrants. It was going to be held in Richmond, VA, but due to ongoing mandates in Virginia in regards to COVID-19, the conference, which runs from 17 to 21 May 2021, will be virtual.
Cathi and Barb’s lecture will be pre-recorded and delivered as part of the on-demand conference program. Barb and Cathi are familiar to many of our members because they serve as volunteer genealogists for the Germanna Foundation. Their research and writing focus on the Germanna Colonists and descendants. They both write articles about Germanna women for the MISSing column in the Germanna newsletter and give presentations at Germanna Reunions.
Barb serves as leader of the annual Foundation Germany Trip. Cathi maintains the Germanna Database of Descendants (GermannaFamily.org) and has authored three Germanna Records with a fourth in progress.

Virtual NGS Family History Conference, 17-21 May 2021
Make plans to attend virtually the National Genealogical Society Family History Conference that stretches over five days, 17-21 May 2021. Or sign up to watch on-demand presentations that become available in June.
The NGS conference committee has created a program of virtual events for family history researchers at all levels—beginner, intermediate and advanced. The breadth of lecture topics is designed to allow attendees to decide how to personalize their learning experience and skillbuilding.
The first day, Monday, 17 May, is devoted to the Delegate Council Kickoff Workshop for NGS member organization delegates. Tuesday, 18 May is the SLAM! Idea Showcase for society leaders, librarians, archivists, and museum staff who serve genealogists.
The NGS 2021 Live! virtual conference will feature two days of great nationally recognized speakers, including Elizabeth Shown Mills, Thomas W. Jones, Barbara Vines Little, and Judy Russell. The final day, Friday, 21 May, concludes the week with an event Focus on Societies dedicated to topics related to genealogical and historical society management.
