Your Planned Gift to Historic Germanna
General information follows about ways to make a planned gift to Historic Germanna and create your legacy. Please confer with your accountant, estate planner, or broker to begin the process.
Bequests can include Wills or Living Trusts, Retirement Plans, and Life Insurance. For your IRA, 401(k), 403(b), life insurance, or bank account, contact your custodian, insurer, or bank and designate Historic Germanna as a full, partial, or contingent beneficiary and let us know. Charitable bequests may also be included when executing a new will or added to an existing will through a codicil.
Bequests—A charitable bequest is a gift made through your estate plans, via a will or a revocable trust, and takes effect upon your death. It’s the most popular planned gift, the easiest to make, and it costs nothing during your lifetime.
Retirement Plan Assets—By naming Historic Germanna as the beneficiary of a portion or all of your retirement account, such as—IRA, 401(k), 403(b) or other, you maintain lifetime control of these assets, which pass on to Historic Germanna upon your death. Your estate may be able to avoid certain income and estate taxes.
Appreciated Securities—By making a gift of publicly traded securities that have been owned for more than a year and have appreciated in value, you may receive an income tax charitable deduction for the fair market value of the donated securities while also avoiding a capital gains tax. This is a win-win situation.
Life Insurance—By identifying Historic Germanna as the beneficiary of your life insurance policy, effective post-estate settlement, you can provide for beneficiaries, achieve substantial tax savings, and make a larger gift than might otherwise have been possible.
Making your bequest as a tribute or as a memorial is a great way to honor an individual or celebrate an occasion such as an anniversary, birthday, or the arrival of a new family member. Historic Germanna will work with you to inform the honoree (or their family) while keeping the amount of your commitment confidential. In doing so, you can demonstrate the depth of your personal feelings for an individual as well as your desire to make history available for generations to come.
The above information is not intended as legal or tax advice. Before making a charitable gift, consult your attorney, accountant, and/or other financial professional for advice on legal and tax-related matters. All gifts must meet the Historic Germanna Gift Acceptance Policy. We reserve the right to immediately sell any stock that is contributed.
Thank you,
