I am writing to share with you the excitement I have about the future of the Germanna Foundation.
I wish to thank you for the support you have given to sustain our 62-year-old foundation, and today ask you renew your support during our most significant time of opportunities. 2018 has been an important year of discovery and renewal; I’m proud of the work our staff and volunteers have made, and the generosity of the Hitt family in particular will propel our journey of exploration far into the future.
Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of Russell and Joan Hitt, the Germanna Foundation broke ground on the Hitt Archaeology Center. This new facility will contain laboratory space for the cleaning, cataloging, and archiving of artifacts from the archaeological work at Germanna Foundation properties as we study the lives of ordinary people becoming Americans on the frontier.
This year, we hosted for the first time a series of Archaeology Public Access Days which allowed Dr. Eric Larsen, our staff archaeologist, as well as summer interns and field school students to share with members of the public the progress that has been made during this summer season. As we discover more about frontier life at Germanna, members of the public learn how this unique settlement fits into the broader narrative of frontier America and the formation of the American character.
Thanks to a focused volunteer effort, we have completed the digitization of our Germanna family files, which researchers organized and submitted to the Germanna Foundation over the last few decades and will soon be on our website for Germanna members to utilize in their own interpretation of the unfolding Germanna story.
Finally, thanks to the generous sponsorship of our members, we are working with Bryan & Jordan Consulting as we continue to grow into an historic site of national and international importance. We have worked together to create a strategic plan with goals and action plans for the next two years and have hired an Executive Director.
We are excited for what the future holds for the Germanna Foundation, and you are a part of that future. Your timely and strategic financial support to help us meet our financial goals will allow us to continue growing and telling the story of Germanna on the American frontier. As a volunteer myself, I hope you partner with us in our journey of exploration by generously donating to the Germanna Foundation today.
Thank you again for your support in continuing to tell America’s story of liberty through the frontier experience of her settlers and descendants. Please remember Germanna in your will or estate plans.
