Contribute to the Archaeology Lab-Warming Shower!

As the construction of the new Hitt Archaeology Center continues, Germanna Archaeology is dreaming about the future possibilities of working together at cleaning and identifying the artifacts that we recover each summer. We’re already anticipating the chance to display artifacts and share our findings with visitors to the Archaeology Center. As these dreams come closer to reality, some have asked about what we might need to furnish the space so the archaeology staff created a wish list for the lab–we’re calling this a “Lab Warming Shower.” Click on the button to make a secure, online donation:

Drafting Table would be a well-used work surface for us to finish up our field drawings and maps. $350
Stereo Microscope is most useful in close-up work and identifying materials. $320
8-foot Tables so we can spread out artifacts for analysis. Need 4 at $300 each for total of $1200
4-Drawer File Cabinet needed to store the field records we produce. $250
3-foot-wide Open Shelving Units for permanently storing the artifacts we recover. Each unite would hold 15 boxes of artifacts (we could fill about 4 of these units already). Need 4 at $210 each for total of $840
Architects Lamp useful as task lighting at each of our workstations. Need 4 at $185 each for total of $740
Handheld UV Light (w/protective box and eyewear). We use one of these to test different materials (for example, leaded glass and bone china will fluoresce under UV light). $150
Tall Steel Bookcase to hold our identification reference books and field notebooks. I have several boxes of reference books that need shelving. $150
Stacking Chairs to be used at our tables and workstations. Because they stack, 20 chairs would be a big help in a variety of uses. Need 20 at $115 for total of $2300
Set of Digital Calipers used for taking precise measurements of artifacts. $115
Lab Scale that measures to an accuracy of .1 grams. This is useful in describing and cataloging artifacts. $100
