Join us for a Special Fort Germanna Public Access Day Event!
In conjunction with the 300th Anniversary of Spotsylvania County in 2021, Lt. Governor Alexander Spotswood will be at the Fort Germanna Archaeological site to proclaim the formation of Spotsylvania County at 10:30am on Saturday, October 3, 2020.
Visitors will get the chance to see the progress made by archaeologists searching for the fort commissioned by Lt. Governor Alexander Spotswood in 1714. Hear about the everyday experiences of the English, German and African people who lived and worked at Germanna.
Stop by the Fort Germanna Visitor Center campus, which includes the Hitt Archaeology Center, in Locust Grove, VA to pick up directions to the dig site and learn the story of why two Germanna colonies settled on the Virginia frontier.
The visitor experience at the Fort Germanna Archaeological site includes:

- Viewing active excavations
- Speak with Lt. Governor Spotswood as he shares his thoughts on the new Spotsylvania County-named in his honor
