We are delighted to announce that Historic Germanna has been selected as a 2026 Americana Corner Preserving America Grant recipient, a national honor supporting organizations that preserve and share the story of America’s founding era through its first century as a nation.
Grant funding will support the first permanent exhibit at Historic Salubria, interpreting the lives of the people who lived at the house before, during, and after the American Revolution. With Salubria newly opened to the public in 2024, this exhibit represents a defining step in establishing interpretation rooted in current scholarship, inclusive storytelling, and preservation best practices. The new exhibit is expected to be open to the public in the summer of 2026.
The exhibit will feature original artifacts, historic images, and interpretive text informed by the National Park Service 250th Preservation Grant-funded Historic Structure Report. In partnership with Virginia Commonwealth University’s Virtual Curation Laboratory, the project will include 3-D printed, touchable replicas of fragile objects, creating a multisensory learning experience. Carefully designed freestanding exhibit panels and display cases will protect the historic fabric of the 1757 house while allowing visitors to engage with its history.
The new interpretation will expand educational programming and create new opportunities for public events and school field trips, while advancing our strategic plan for long-term sustainability.
Americana Corner’s Preserving America Grant program is a philanthropic initiative that supports organizations dedicated to preserving and sharing the story of America’s founding era through its first century. Each year, grant recipients are announced on George Washington’s birthday. Historic Germanna is grateful for this investment in Salubria’s future and the opportunity to share this next chapter with the community.
