Germanna Fall Gathering Planned

August 26, 2021 By Germanna Foundation

UPDATE: Registration is closed as we’ve reached maximum capacity for this event.

After two years of virtual Summer Conference Reunions, Germanna is cautiously optimistic that an in-person Fall Mini-Reunion is feasible. The secure registration form is below.

Hebron Lutheran Church has graciously agreed to host us for the event and the planned schedule offers time for socializing with fellow Germannans in addition to presentations and entertainment.

This church has been in continuous use through all of American history, and the original part of the building is the oldest Lutheran church built and continuously used by Lutherans in the United States. The original section of Hebron Lutheran Church was completed in 1740 by a group of German Lutherans who arrived at Fort Germanna in Virginia in 1717. (read more about its history).

Date: Saturday, 9 October 2021
Time: 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
Place: Hebron Lutheran Church, 899 Blankenbaker Road in Madison, VA
Cost: $40 per person, includes lunch

The day will start with a Coffee Hour and Check-In at 9:00 am in the church social hall with the formal program commencing at 9:30 am.

Presentations will include:

  • Updates from Germanna staff
  • The 1714 and 1717 Germanna Colonists by Barbara Price and Cathi Clore Frost
  • Moravian Missionaries and the Germanna Colonists by Barbara Price
  • David Tannenberg Moravian Organ Builder (and builder of the Hebron Lutheran Church organ) by Madison Brown

The program will conclude with a Moravian Hymnody, history and traditional Moravian hymns sung along with the Tannenberg organ.

We are also hoping to plan a group dinner at a local Culpeper restaurant. Because we don’t know what rules will be in effect for restaurants in October or the availability of outdoor seating at printing time, these arrangements will be made at a future date.

We are also invited to the worship service at Hebron Lutheran Church at 10:00 am on Sunday, 10 October 2021.

We will be following CDC and Virginia guidelines in place on the day of our gathering. Please come prepared.

Please make plans to attend! Securely register below or call Germanna at 540-423-1700.
